Having a particular focus on Ward 8, our analysis concluded that social services have long been the dominant approach to improving the well-being of native Ward 8 residents. However, the need for establish commercial economic anchors in Ward 8 through hyper-local, non-extractive, multi-sector, intergenerational partnerships and investments has been overlooked as a necessary element of community wellbeing. Rather most commercial investment in Ward 8 has been in the form of commercial or residential real estate development which creates few long term jobs, and contributes to the steady increase of economic pressures displacing native Ward 8 residents.
