WHAT WE DO

Real People
Doing Real Things

Our Mission: research, develop and implement hyper-local, intergenerational economic equity strategies through strategic partnerships and investments in commercial enterprises which create wealth for native Ward 8 residents rather than extract wealth from Ward 8. We gather unique insights at the grassroots level and curate them for the policy and funding communities.

DCCDC serves as a brain trust to create structural economic equity in Washington DC, powered by grassroots and academic hands on professionals who operate with wisdom gained from real life experiences. Having a particular focus on Ward 8, our analysis concluded that social services have long been the dominant approach to improving the well-being of native Ward 8 residents.  However, the need for establish commercial economic anchors in Ward 8 through hyper-local, non-extractive, multi-sector, intergenerational partnerships and investments has been overlooked as a necessary element of community wellbeing. Rather most commercial investment in Ward 8 has been in the form of commercial or residential real estate development which creates few long term jobs, and contributes to the steady increase of economic pressures displacing native Ward 8 residents.
